Best known for her novel "The Color Purple" which she won a pulitzer prize for.

1952- Author Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man wins the National Book Award.

1971- Leroy "Satchel" Paige is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame

In my opinion, Satchel Paige is still one of the best to ever play the game of baseball. 

1995- Bernard Harris takes a walk in space.
